Buying toys is a big part of most of our lives. We do it all the time without really giving it much thought, don’t we? Now, that’s the problem! So why ditch plastic toys for wooden toys?
Err why not?!! What’s not to love about wooden toys? While your conventional plastic toys can, on occasion, be easy on the pocket and are just generally more available, wooden toys win all the way. And here’s why:
Oh my goodness! How many times have you had to replace batteries on plastic battery operated toys? And how much has this cost you? With wooden toys, all the sound effects and movements are made by your little ones. Why is this a good thing, you may ask? I’ll tell you – it will boost they creativity and imagination skills and these two skills are vital to a child’s development!
Oh and the best part? Wooden toys are less noisy. I know, all about noisy toys – we had many and it would drive me insane. I must confess, at one point, I would hide those noisy toys just so I could get a break from all those annoying and repetitive sounds!
Well-made wooden toys are sure to last long enough to pass onto future generations. I’m sure most of us have a toy somewhere passed along to us by older generations. More than likely this toy is wooden. So, the next dollhouse or ride-on toy you buy could become a family heirloom – giving your little one the priceless opportunity of sharing his or her fond memories with his or her children or younger cousins! How cool would that be?
THEY ARE SAFE AND THE EARTH WILL LOVE YOU
Wooden toys are usually made from sustainably sourced wood and natural, eco-friendly materials. This means you get a longer lasting, lower waste product AND the earth will love you for making an environmentally friendly choice!
Also, most wooden toys don’t have high levels of chemicals and toxins so you don’t have to worry about exposing your child to unknown chemicals and toxins that plastic toys can be made of. This is especially true for your toddlers as they tend to put everything in their mouths; including toys!
Let’s face it, wood is way stronger than your average plastic toy. It survives the bashing that toys get on a day to day basis better than the plastic toys. This means wooden toys last longer – giving you bang for your buck! Once your little one is done with a wooden toy, you can sell it on and make some money or you can do a good deed and donate it to charity.
I hope I have convinced you that wooden toys rule and for good reason too! If anything, ponder upon the potentially harmful chemicals and toxins that plastic toys are sometimes made of. Would you want your precious little baba exposed to such unknowns? I bet not!
